SUNFLOWER FIELDS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Where do I park?

There is plenty of parking available! The flower fields will be clearly sign posted on the side on the road at 167 Taha Road, Waimauku - drive in, and park in the paddock there. Please drive slowly and be mindful of pedestrians. There is an overflow parking paddock 50m up the road that will be well sign posted. The fields are wheelchair accessible. Parts of the farm have concrete paths, however it is a paddock and may be a bit of a bumpy ride.

2. What do I wear?

Whatever you feel comfortable in. We recommend wearing shoes to reduce your chance of standing on a bee. We also recommend you wear a hat and sunscreen, there is limited shade in the fields.

3. Can I bring my dog?

Not to open days. You can bring them to Doggy Fridays though (9am-sunset). You can also bring them to your private, weekday evening booked session. Service dogs are welcome anytime though.

4. Do you sell food or drinks?

We do sell cold drinks and ice blocks, and will have a food truck available on the weekends. You are welcome to bring your own food in.

5. Can I bring a picnic with me?

Absolutely! The fields span over 12 acres, so you're more than welcome to set up a cosy space with friends or family. Keep in mind, weekends can get busy and that week day sessions can be booked to guarantee a quiet, private space.

5. What do I bring with me?

If you want to pick your own Sunflowers - Secateurs. (REALLY strong scissors). Sunflowers need to be cut with secateurs.  Alternatively, you can buy pre cut flowers.

You may want to bring something to wrap your sunflowers in (as the stems are quite hairy) - something like a bag, newspaper or a bucket of water.

6. Can I fly a drone over the fields?

For open days, no. For privately booked evening weekday sessions - please discuss this with Jasmine.

7. Do you have toilet facilities?

Yes, there are portaloos on site, they will be in the carpark. Please ask a staff member if you need to use one.

8. How do I book for a midweek, evening private session?

You can do this through the website.  Please note, booking is only required for these (Monday, Wednesday & Thursday 5pm - 8pm) sessions. We're open all other days and times and no booking is required.

9. I want to propose to my partner in the sunflower fields, can you please help me to pull off a sneaky surprise?

Of course! We LOVE proposals. If you want to plan any sort of surprise for your partner, let us know! We're more than happy to help you pull off your ideas.

9. I'm allergic to bees, can I still visit the sunflower fields?

You certainly can, but you will need to manage this risk accordingly. It is very low risk if you stand on the edges of the fields, vs walking amongst the sunflowers for photos. We love our bees, but if you have severe allergies, you may need to consider your health and safety before visiting our farm.

10. What happens if it is raining?

We will work with you for booked sessions when the weather is looking questionable, and make the call on our end if the weather isn't looking great. Sessions can be moved to accommodate for bad weather. We will keep our socials updated in regards to open weekends and the weather.

11. Do I need to book?

No, Just pay for entry on arrival during our open hours.

Yes you can! Please do not touch or handle the eggs, caterpillars or chrysalises though.

2. Do I need to book to come?

Nope, just pay entry on arrival! We are closed on Tuesday, but open every other day.

At this stage, no. We might add ice blocks and drinks if we have capacity to do so at a later date. There will be ice blocks, drinks and food trucks down at the sunflowers though.

4. Can I buy a swan plant to take home?

Yes you can! We will have a limited number of swan plants for sale, while stock lasts.

5. Will you be selling flowering plants I can buy for the butterflies?

With this being our first year, we won't have flowering plants for sale. We've maxed out on time and money for our opening year, but if all goes well, we'd definitely like to have flowering plants for sale next season!

6. Can I bring a picnic to the Butterfly House?

Yes you can! We will have picnic tables at the Butterfly House. We ask though that you spend time visiting the butterflies before sitting down to eat to prevent dirty hands going into the butterfly house.

7. Are there toilets onsite?

Yes! We'll have portaloos here for you to use.

8. Will you be taking card payments?

Yes we will. We're working with wireless payment terminals in the middle of the farm, so please have cash on hand juuuuuust in case we encounter technical difficulties.

9. Can I bring my dog?

Not to the Butterfly House. It is a very delicate environment, and we don't want to compromise our butterflies in anyway. Service dogs are welcome anytime though.

10. Can I organise a visit with my school during term time?

Yes! Please contact Jasmine in regards to this.

11. Will you be open if it's raining?

We will be if it's light rain, the butterflies don't mind that, and are actually easier to hold as they're less active. If the weather is extreme - high winds and rain, we will need to close. Please monitor our socials for updates when the weather is bad.
